For those of you who don’t know who he is, Sanders is one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. What made his success most impressive was that he accomplished it all behind one of the worst offensive lines in football. It was extremely common for Sanders to finish the first half with a stat line of 15 carries for 30 yards. But he was so shifty and elusive that you knew, eventually, he was going to bust off a long touchdown run. His skills were so eye-popping that not even the Madden video games could do him justice.
With his ability, Sanders knew that all he had to do was stay patient and eventually he’d find that little inch of daylight that he could squeeze through and take it to the house. Trading is the same way. Think about it — there are 20,000 publicly traded stocks out there and they’re trading in very tight ranges. Most of them aren’t even tradeable daily because they are usually getting stuffed at supply. What’s supply? Think of it this way — it’s an 8-man box ready to pounce on Barry Sanders at the line of scrimmage. In technical terms, there’s a supply zone where technical sellers meet emotional buyers, resulting in a temporary fade in stock price. A supply zone can be anything that potentially demonstrates a pivot: moving averages, Bollinger Bands, and linear regression lines just to name a few.
The more visually illustrated clues you have in front of you the better. Many traders can identify entries but most can’t properly identify the right exits, leaving money on the table. Trading has a lot of moving parts. If you get to know supply zones they will quickly become your friend.
